Introduction
Long-term use may cause kidney damage; severe cases may lead to renal papillary necrosis or uremia, and may even induce renal pelvis cancer or bladder cancer. Therefore, prolonged use should be avoided to prevent neutropenia. If treatment exceeds one week, routine blood tests should be performed regularly.

Qutong Pian (a compound analgesic tablet) primarily provides pain relief and sedation. It may be used temporarily for symptomatic treatment when severe pain occurs. However, Qutong Pian can affect the body’s endocrine system, potentially leading to menstrual irregularities. So, can taking Qutong Pian delay menstruation?

Can Taking Qutong Pian Delay Menstruation?

Qutong Pian is a compound formulation with antipyretic and analgesic properties, commonly used to treat fever and various types of pain—including dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps). Generally, however, Qutong Pian does not significantly affect the menstrual cycle. When using this medication, the following precautions should be observed:

First, long-term use may cause renal damage; in severe cases, it can lead to renal papillary necrosis or uremia, and may even increase the risk of renal pelvis or bladder cancer. Therefore, prolonged use should be avoided. To prevent neutropenia, complete blood counts should be monitored regularly if treatment exceeds one week.

Second, aminopyrine—a component of Qutong Pian—can react with food under gastric acidic conditions to form carcinogenic nitroso compounds, particularly nitrosamines, conferring potential carcinogenicity.

Third, prolonged use may result in dependence and tolerance development.

Fourth, Qutong Pian is ineffective against severe traumatic pain or visceral smooth muscle colic. During treatment, patients must closely monitor routine blood tests, liver function, and kidney function to avoid adverse reactions.

Limit intake of sweets and caffeine-containing beverages. Foods high in sugar—such as candy, chocolate, and cake—can elevate blood glucose levels, destabilize the menstrual cycle, and cause physical discomfort. Similarly, strong tea and coffee may induce anxiety and restlessness, making it difficult to calmly anticipate menstruation. Women who enjoy tea may consider switching to barley tea, which offers better suitability during this period.

We hope the above information is helpful. Wishing you a pleasant and healthy life!
