Introduction
Induced vomiting can cause facial enlargement due to repeated stimulation leading to hypertrophy of facial musculature and swelling of the salivary glands. Recovery may be achieved through facial massage, warm compresses, or facial exercises. Chronic induced vomiting may develop into habitual vomiting, posing serious health risks; however, discontinuing this behavior generally allows for recovery. It is essential to adopt healthy eating habits and, whenever possible, quit smoking and alcohol consumption.

Induced vomiting—literally “inducing vomiting”—refers to the deliberate use of various methods to trigger the expulsion of ingested substances, such as food or medications. But why does induced vomiting cause facial enlargement? Below, we address this question.

Why Induced Vomiting Causes Facial Enlargement

Facial enlargement resulting from repeated induced vomiting is primarily due to hypertrophy (enlargement) of facial muscles and swelling of the salivary glands caused by chronic mechanical stimulation. This condition can be alleviated through facial massage, warm compresses, or targeted facial exercises.

Frequent, long-term induced vomiting may develop into habitual vomiting, posing serious health risks. However, with cessation of this behavior, facial changes are generally reversible. Adopting healthy dietary habits is essential: avoid smoking and alcohol, consume ample fruits and vegetables, engage in regular physical exercise, and incorporate facial exercises—for instance, “pouting” exercises for facial slimming. After inducing vomiting, stand before a mirror and purse your lips, then move them sequentially in four directions—left, right, up, and down—holding each position for five seconds. Repeat the sequence in reverse order, followed by gentle palm-tapping on the cheeks to promote muscle relaxation.

Additionally, consider performing a decongestive facial massage routine. After induced-vomiting-related weight loss, place the middle fingers of both hands beneath the eyes and massage in gentle circular motions from left to right, lifting upward toward the outer corners of the eyes. Next, use the index fingers to massage vertically along the indentations above the eyebrows. Then press firmly with the index fingers on the depressions just below the cheekbones to stimulate facial blood circulation. Using the pads of three fingers (index, middle, and ring), gently tap along the jawline in a piano-key motion for 3–5 minutes to relax the cheek muscles. Finally, apply a cold towel to the face for 10 minutes to reduce facial congestion and erythema.

The above outlines the mechanisms by which induced vomiting may lead to facial enlargement. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
