Symptoms of Kidney Deficiency in Women
“Kidney deficiency” refers to insufficiency of the kidney’s essential qi, yin, and yang. There are many types of kidney deficiency, with kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency being the most common. So, what are the symptoms of kidney deficiency in women?

Symptoms of Kidney Deficiency in Women
Common manifestations of kidney deficiency in women include dizziness, tinnitus, and soreness or weakness in the lower back and knees. Kidney deficiency is further categorized into kidney qi deficiency, kidney yin deficiency, and kidney yang deficiency. Women with kidney qi deficiency often experience frequent urination and fatigue or low energy. Those with kidney yin deficiency commonly present with dry mouth and throat, heat sensations in the palms and soles, while those with kidney yang deficiency typically exhibit cold intolerance, cold hands and feet, excessive or prolonged urination (especially nocturia). Kidney deficiency may contribute to various gynecological disorders, such as shortened or delayed menstrual cycles, irregular menstruation, amenorrhea (cessation of menses), or severe menstrual disturbances like metrorrhagia and menorrhagia (abnormal uterine bleeding). It may also underlie perimenopausal symptoms—commonly known as “menopausal syndrome”—as well as excessive vaginal discharge (leukorrhea) or persistent, scanty discharge.

The primary causes of kidney deficiency in women include constitutional insufficiency (i.e., congenital weakness), dysfunction of other zang-fu organs, or chronic unresolved illness—all of which ultimately impair kidney function. Additionally, childbirth and excessive sexual activity are significant contributing factors in women. Poor lifestyle habits—such as chronic sleep deprivation—may also lead to kidney deficiency. If a woman experiences soreness or weakness in the lower back and knees, heat sensations in the palms and soles, tidal fever, night sweats, or dry mouth and tongue, kidney yin deficiency should be considered.
