Introduction
Candidal vaginitis is a common and frequently occurring inflammatory condition affecting the vulva and vagina, caused by Candida species. Candida is a type of fungus, and *Candida albicans* is the most common species responsible for vaginal infections. Candida exhibits relatively low heat resistance; it is killed after one hour at 60°C. However, it demonstrates greater resistance to drying, sunlight, ultraviolet radiation, and various chemical agents.

Among common gynecological disorders, candidal vaginitis is a relatively serious condition with significant health implications. Sometimes, due to insufficient awareness of this condition in daily life, treatment may encounter obstacles, resulting in suboptimal therapeutic outcomes. So, what exactly is candidal vaginitis?

What Is Candidal Vaginitis?

Candidal vaginitis is a common and frequently recurring inflammatory disorder affecting the vulva and vagina, caused primarily by Candida species—a type of fungus. The most common causative organism is Candida albicans. Candida exhibits relatively low heat resistance; it is killed after one hour at 60°C. However, it demonstrates considerable resistance to drying, sunlight, ultraviolet radiation, and various chemical agents.

Treatment options for candidal vaginitis include vaginal suppositories such as clotrimazole (Canesten), miconazole (Daktarin), nifuratel, and terbinafine hydrochloride effervescent tablets—typically administered once nightly for approximately one week, leading to resolution in most cases. For severe or recurrent infections, treatment duration may be extended to 10–14 days. In cases of persistent or refractory candidiasis, patients require not only standard antifungal therapy but also consolidation treatment over six consecutive cycles. Pregnant women diagnosed with candidal vaginitis may safely use clotrimazole—administered once every three days for one to two doses—to achieve effective symptom relief and clinical cure.

The above provides an overview of what candidal vaginitis is. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
