　　Generally speaking, a kidney tumor refers to an abnormal growth arising from pathological changes within the kidney. Most kidney tumors are malignant. In their early stages, these tumors often produce no distinctive symptoms—because they are small, they may cause no noticeable discomfort. However, with the increasing prevalence of routine health examinations, many individuals can detect kidney tumors at an early stage through imaging tests such as renal ultrasound.

　　A tumor in the kidney may be either benign or malignant. If malignant, it is classified as renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer). Early detection, timely diagnosis, and prompt treatment are critical for successful cure. Once an imaging study reveals a renal mass, a biopsy is typically performed to obtain tissue for histopathological examination—the gold standard for definitively distinguishing benign from malignant tumors. Following histopathological confirmation, surgical resection is usually the first-line treatment. Benign tumors can often be cured completely with surgery alone. For malignant tumors, however, additional therapies—including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, targeted drug therapy, and biological therapy—are generally required after surgery to reduce the risk of recurrence.
