Introduction
1. Pregnancy: During pregnancy, the progressively enlarging uterus compresses pelvic blood vessels, leading to pathological varicosities in the perianal vasculature and subsequent hemorrhoid formation. 2. Gynecological inflammation: Inflammation of the vagina or vulva repeatedly irritates the perianal skin folds, resulting in localized fibrous hyperplasia and external hemorrhoids. 3. Poor defecation habits: Chronic constipation or diarrhea predisposes individuals to hemorrhoid development.

Hemorrhoids are the most common anorectal condition encountered in clinical practice. They result from pathological hypertrophy of the anal cushions located in the distal rectum. Based on their anatomical location, hemorrhoids are classified as internal, external, or mixed. So, what causes hemorrhoids in women?

  Causes of Hemorrhoids in Women

Common causes of hemorrhoids in women include: 1. Pregnancy: As the uterus enlarges during pregnancy, it exerts pressure on pelvic blood vessels, impairing venous return from the anorectal region and leading to pathological dilation and tortuosity of perianal veins—resulting in hemorrhoids. 2. Gynecological inflammation: Recurrent vaginal or vulvar inflammation may chronically irritate the perianal skin folds, triggering localized fibroplasia and contributing to external hemorrhoid formation. 3. Poor defecation habits: Chronic constipation or diarrhea predisposes individuals to hemorrhoid development. 4. Unhealthy dietary patterns: Regular consumption of spicy, irritating foods and frequent alcohol intake. 5. Unhealthy lifestyle habits: Chronic sleep deprivation, excessive physical exertion, heavy lifting, prolonged sitting or squatting—often related to occupational demands.

If a woman develops hemorrhoids accompanied by bright red, scant rectal bleeding, topical treatment with Ma Ying Long Hemorrhoid Suppositories or Hemorrhoid Ointment is recommended. For more substantial bleeding, oral administration of Huaijiao Wan (Sophora Fruit Pills) or Diosmin Tablets may be added. When perianal pain and swelling predominate, herbal fumigation and sitz baths after bowel movements can be beneficial. In cases of prolapsed anal masses, performing Kegel (anal sphincter) exercises is advised; symptom relief typically occurs within 3–5 days. If symptoms persist beyond this period, prompt medical evaluation is recommended—and surgical intervention may be necessary.

The above outlines the primary causes of hemorrhoids in women. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
