Introduction
Frequent masturbation in adolescents should be addressed and corrected. Occasional masturbation is a normal behavior; however, excessive masturbation poses greater risks to physical health. Adolescents should generally minimize their exposure to sexually explicit books, videos, and novels. When the urge to masturbate arises, they can redirect their attention by engaging in other activities. Excessive masturbation carries several risks, the first of which is diminished libido, resulting from excessive testosterone depletion.

Given today’s highly developed internet, many adolescents are exposed to related content and may unconsciously imitate it—often adopting unhealthy habits. How can adolescents recover from long-term masturbation?

How Can Adolescents Recover from Long-Term Masturbation?

Frequent masturbation in adolescents should be addressed and corrected. Occasional masturbation is considered a normal behavior; however, excessive or frequent masturbation poses greater risks to physical health. Adolescents should therefore minimize exposure to sexually explicit books, videos, and novels. When urges arise, they can redirect their attention by engaging in alternative activities.

Excessive masturbation carries several health risks: First, decreased libido—overstimulation leads to excessive testosterone consumption, resulting in reduced testosterone levels and diminished sexual desire; some individuals may even develop symptoms of sexual aversion. Second, inflammation of the foreskin and glans penis—poor local hygiene during masturbation increases susceptibility to balanoposthitis (inflammation of the foreskin and glans). In some cases, urethritis or seminal vesiculitis may also occur, potentially manifesting as hematuria or abnormal semen parameters. Third, impaired sexual function—chronic masturbation may deplete intracellular guanylate cyclase. Low levels of this enzyme in penile tissue can lead to refractory erectile dysfunction, characterized by absent or inadequate erection in response to sexual stimulation, thereby contributing to both reduced libido and compromised sexual function.

Adolescents with habitual masturbation may, under medical supervision, take certain kidney-tonifying medications—such as sildenafil citrate or dapoxetine—to support recovery. Additionally, cultivating healthy lifestyle habits is essential: avoid chronic sleep deprivation, ensure adequate rest, and incorporate regular physical exercise to enhance overall immunity and resilience.
