Introduction
Whether a woman with placenta previa can deliver vaginally depends on the specific clinical situation. Low-lying placenta refers to placental implantation below the presenting part of the fetus. If, after 28 weeks of gestation, the placenta remains located in the lower uterine segment and its lower edge does not reach the internal cervical os, the diagnosis of low-lying placenta is made. In such cases, some women may still achieve vaginal delivery. However, if fetal head compression occurs during labor, an immediate cesarean delivery should be performed to terminate the pregnancy.

Many pregnant women experience placenta previa in the third trimester. Some of these women worry that vaginal delivery may not be possible—can vaginal delivery still be performed with placenta previa?

Can vaginal delivery be performed with placenta previa?

Whether vaginal delivery is feasible depends on the specific clinical situation. Low-lying placenta refers to a placenta implanted in the lower uterine segment, below the presenting fetal part. If, after 28 weeks of gestation, the placenta remains located in the lower uterine segment and its lower edge does not reach the internal cervical os, the diagnosis is low-lying placenta. In such cases, some women may still deliver vaginally. However, if fetal head compression occurs during labor, an immediate cesarean delivery should be performed to terminate the pregnancy. If, after 28 weeks, the placenta remains low-lying and its lower edge reaches or covers the internal cervical os, the condition is diagnosed as marginal, partial, or complete placenta previa—and cesarean delivery should be performed without delay, under the guidance of an obstetrician.

Pregnant women with placenta previa must undergo regular obstetric examinations at a hospital. They should be admitted to the hospital promptly as delivery approaches and select the appropriate mode of delivery based on their current physical condition and medical advice. During the third trimester, antenatal visits should be increased to once every seven days to ensure optimal fetal health.

Dietarily, pregnant women should maintain balanced nutrition, incorporating both animal and plant-based foods while minimizing intake of spicy and irritating foods. Adequate bed rest is essential, and women should strive to maintain a positive mood daily—avoiding prolonged anxiety. We hope this information has been helpful!
