Yes, boric acid solution can be used to treat eczema—specifically acute eczema. When patients present with localized erosion and exudation, a 2–3% boric acid solution may be applied as a cool wet compress. Alternatively, normal saline may also be used for wet compresses. If secondary bacterial infection is present—evidenced by purulent discharge—potassium permanganate solution may be employed for cleansing or wet compresses. However, using boric acid solution for wet compresses in chronic eczema is inappropriate and contraindicated.
