In contrast, myocardial infarction results from ischemia and hypoxia-induced myocardial necrosis.

 


What Specific Symptoms Are Associated with Elevated Cardiac Enzyme Levels?

1. Myocarditis

Myocarditis is characterized by localized or diffuse inflammatory changes in the myocardium, often accompanied by degeneration and necrosis of adjacent cardiomyocytes. Clinical manifestations vary widely—from asymptomatic cases to severe complications such as life-threatening arrhythmias, acute heart failure, cardiogenic shock, or even sudden death.

2. Acute Myocardial Infarction

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) refers to myocardial necrosis caused by acute coronary artery ischemia and hypoxia. Clinically, patients typically present with severe, prolonged retrosternal chest pain unrelieved by rest or nitrate therapy. Serum cardiac enzyme activity increases significantly, and progressive electrocardiographic (ECG) changes occur. Complications may include arrhythmias, shock, or heart failure—conditions that frequently threaten life. A several-fold to hundred-fold elevation in cardiac enzyme levels strongly suggests acute myocardial infarction.
