Is Botox effective for facial slimming?
“Face-slimming injections” are commonly referred to as “botulinum toxin.” They work by reducing neuromuscular transmission, thereby causing temporary atrophy of the injected facial muscles and achieving a slimmer facial contour. So, how effective are face-slimming injections?
How Effective Are Face-Slimming Injections?
For optimal slimming results, injections are typically administered in the lower one-third of the face. Individuals with hypertrophied masseter muscles often exhibit a broad, square-shaped facial appearance. In such cases, face-slimming injections can yield excellent contouring outcomes, primarily targeting and reducing the volume of enlarged masseter muscles.

Conversely, if facial width in the lower one-third is due to lateral widening of the mandibular angle (rather than masseter hypertrophy), face-slimming injections are generally not recommended. However, for cases involving true masseter muscle enlargement, the slimming effect post-injection is typically very pronounced. Results usually last 6–9 months following injection. Based on individual needs, patients may opt for localized touch-up treatments during this period to maintain the desired slimming effect and sustain an improved facial contour.

Generally, approximately 90% of individuals respond well to face-slimming injections and achieve noticeable slimming effects. The primary target area is the masseter muscle—located along the side and back of the jaw—not the entire face. Importantly, these injections do not reduce overall facial fat or volume; rather, they specifically reduce the size of the masseter muscles.
