Introduction
Common symptoms of kidney deficiency in women include dizziness, tinnitus, and soreness or weakness in the lower back and knees. Kidney deficiency encompasses three main patterns: kidney qi deficiency, kidney yin deficiency, and kidney yang deficiency. Women with kidney qi deficiency often experience frequent urination and fatigue or low energy; those with kidney yin deficiency commonly present with dry mouth and throat, and heat sensations in the palms and soles; while those with kidney yang deficiency typically exhibit cold intolerance, cold hands and feet, increased urine output, and nocturia. Kidney deficiency may contribute to various gynecological disorders.

Both men and women are susceptible to kidney deficiency. However, due to women’s frequent neglect of this condition, optimal treatment timing is often missed. What are the symptoms and treatment options for kidney deficiency in women?

Symptoms and Treatment of Kidney Deficiency in Women

Common symptoms of kidney deficiency in women include dizziness, tinnitus, and soreness or weakness in the lower back and knees. Kidney deficiency encompasses three primary patterns: kidney qi deficiency, kidney yin deficiency, and kidney yang deficiency. Women with kidney qi deficiency often experience frequent urination and fatigue or low energy. Those with kidney yin deficiency commonly present with dry mouth and throat, heat sensations in the palms and soles, while those with kidney yang deficiency typically exhibit cold intolerance, cold hands and feet, increased urinary frequency (especially nocturia). Kidney deficiency may contribute to various gynecological disorders, manifesting as shortened or delayed menstrual cycles—or irregular menstruation—and, in severe cases, amenorrhea or significant menstrual cycle disturbances, often accompanied by premenstrual or postmenstrual symptoms.

During the postmenopausal period—commonly referred to as perimenopause or menopausal syndrome—kidney deficiency may also manifest as excessive vaginal discharge (leukorrhea), increased discharge volume, or persistent dripping. During pregnancy, women with kidney deficiency may develop signs of threatened miscarriage, such as vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain, potentially progressing to spontaneous abortion. Some women may also experience infertility. If a woman presents with soreness or weakness in the lower back and knees, shortness of breath, lethargy, spontaneous sweating, or profuse sweating—indicative of kidney qi deficiency—the therapeutic principle is to tonify kidney qi.

Dietary Regulation: For kidney qi deficiency, foods that tonify kidney qi—such as lotus seeds, fox nuts (Euryale ferox), and chicken soup—are recommended. For kidney jing (essence) deficiency, foods that nourish kidney essence—including lamb, dog meat, seafood, and Chinese yam—are advised. We hope this information proves helpful!
