What Are the Symptoms and Manifestations of Female Menopause?
Every woman will experience menopause at a certain age. A proper understanding of menopause can help women reduce anxiety during this transitional phase. What symptoms and manifestations are associated with female menopause?
Common Symptoms and Manifestations of Female Menopause
Menstrual irregularities are among the primary features of menopause. These may include amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) for several months, menorrhagia (excessively heavy menstrual bleeding) or hypomenorrhea (scanty menstrual flow), shortened menstrual cycles, or even prolonged uterine bleeding. Excessive or prolonged bleeding often leads to anemia. Emotional changes are also common: women may experience heightened emotional sensitivity, irritability, low mood, racing or intrusive thoughts, increased sadness, and frequent crying.

Hot flashes and excessive sweating are hallmark symptoms of menopause. Many women experience sudden, unexplained episodes of warmth and perspiration—frequency and duration vary significantly among individuals, occurring multiple times per day with each episode lasting variable lengths of time. Genitourinary changes also occur due to declining estrogen levels: postmenopausal women are more prone to urinary tract infections, vaginal dryness, and decreased libido.

The loss of estrogen’s protective effects during menopause increases susceptibility to cardiovascular diseases. Abnormalities in blood glucose, lipid profiles, and blood pressure—as well as other cardiovascular and cerebrovascular risk factors—become more prevalent. Additionally, hormonal changes contribute to osteoporosis; significant bone loss commonly occurs following menopause. We hope this information is helpful to you!
