What Are the Symptoms of High Uric Acid Levels?
Elevated uric acid levels in daily life pose a significant health risk and can lead to multiple complications. What are the common symptoms of hyperuricemia?
What Are the Symptoms of Hyperuricemia?
Symptoms of elevated uric acid include nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, and—particularly in patients with mild fatty liver disease—impaired liver function, which may manifest as nausea, vomiting, or abdominal distension. Nausea often occurs independently. Loss of appetite is another common clinical manifestation of hyperuricemia. If appetite remains persistently diminished, in addition to considering conditions such as gastritis, hyperuricemia should also be suspected. Spider angiomas are vascular lesions formed by dilation of terminal branches of small cutaneous arteries, resembling spiders in appearance—hence their name. They commonly appear on the skin surface, neck, dorsum of the hands, upper arms, and shoulders. During physical examination, gentle pressure on the central portion of the lesion using a fingernail or cotton swab causes temporary blanching of the surrounding capillary network. Fatigue is frequently observed in patients with moderate-to-severe fatty liver disease.

Endocrine disorders may also occur: in some male patients with more severe fatty liver disease, gynecomastia (breast enlargement) may develop; female patients may experience menstrual irregularities or amenorrhea. Jaundice reflects disordered bilirubin metabolism, resulting in elevated serum bilirubin concentrations that subsequently deposit in tissues, the sclera, mucous membranes, and skin. Jaundice often indicates hepatocellular injury associated with fatty liver disease.

In daily life, individuals with hyperuricemia should aim to control body weight; excessive weight undermines effective management of fatty liver disease. Lifestyle modification is essential, as many patients with fatty liver disease have notably unhealthy habits. We hope this article has been helpful. Wishing you a joyful life and optimal health!
