Introduction
Foods to Avoid in Eczema: Patients with eczema should avoid allergenic foods. Most patients are prone to allergies, and some also suffer from underlying conditions such as poor physical constitution, weakened immunity, or indigestion—these individuals must also avoid prohibited foods. In particular, those with food allergies must strictly avoid high-protein, “heat-inducing” (or “wind-triggering”) foods, such as seafood, dairy products, alcohol, beef, and mutton. Additionally, foods susceptible to bacterial contamination should be avoided.

Eczema is a common skin disorder, predominantly affecting children and the elderly. It tends to recur persistently and is notoriously difficult to cure completely—causing significant distress to patients. So, what foods should individuals with eczema avoid?

Foods to Avoid with Eczema

Individuals with eczema should avoid allergenic foods. Most patients are prone to allergies and may also suffer from underlying conditions such as constitutional weakness, poor immunity, or indigestion—factors that necessitate strict dietary restrictions. In particular, those with known food allergies must strictly avoid high-protein “trigger” foods—including seafood, dairy products, alcohol, beef, and mutton. Additionally, foods susceptible to bacterial contamination should be avoided, as bacterial infection is associated with eczema development. Emphasize good hygiene in daily life and avoid consuming potentially contaminated foods such as minced meat, improperly stored meat, leftover dishes, and fermented rice wine lees.

Spicy and stimulating foods should also be avoided. Many eczema patients have a “damp-heat” constitution, and consuming irritants can exacerbate skin lesions and lead to loss of disease control. Therefore, onions, garlic, ginger, and pepper should be avoided. Likewise, foods that promote dampness, activate blood circulation, or provoke qi movement should be limited.

Given that eczema patients often present with imbalances involving both dryness and dampness in their qi and blood, they should avoid “damp-promoting” foods such as beef, onions, ginger, and garlic. Foods that “activate blood” include chili peppers and arrowhead (Cyperus rotundus); those that “provoke qi” include lotus seeds, mutton, and foxnut (Euryale ferox).
