Introduction
During episodes of skin allergy, the body is often in a hypersensitive state, and certain foods should therefore be avoided. These include foods containing heterologous proteins—such as fish, shrimp, other seafood, and beef or mutton—as well as other high-protein foods, which are more likely to trigger allergic reactions; thus, their intake should be minimized. Additionally, spicy and stimulating foods—including scallions, ginger, leeks, and cilantro—should also be limited, as they possess volatile aromatic compounds.

Allergy is a type of hypersensitivity reaction in the body—an abnormal immune response to otherwise harmless substances known as allergens. Allergic reactions occur only when allergens come into contact with individuals who have an allergic constitution. So, what foods should be avoided during skin allergy?

Foods to Avoid During Skin Allergy

During skin allergy, the body is often in a state of heightened sensitivity, and certain foods should therefore be avoided or consumed sparingly. These include foods containing heterologous proteins—such as fish, shrimp, other seafood, beef, and mutton—as well as other high-protein foods, which are more likely to trigger allergic reactions. Spicy or irritating foods—including scallions, ginger, leeks, and cilantro—contain volatile compounds that may exacerbate allergic symptoms and should also be limited. Additionally, pickled foods and edible fungi often contain relatively high levels of allergenic components and are thus best avoided or consumed in moderation.

Certain fruits—such as mangoes, pineapples, cocoa, and strawberries—are also relatively common triggers that may worsen allergic reactions. Stimulating beverages—including strong tea, coffee, and alcoholic drinks—are likewise best avoided during active allergic episodes.

Patients experiencing skin allergy may also develop systemic symptoms such as fever, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, pallor, cold sweats, palpitations, and generalized fatigue. In addition to these manifestations, some patients may present gastrointestinal symptoms—including abdominal pain and diarrhea—resembling gastroenteritis, significantly impairing quality of life and overall health.
