Introduction
In general, values below 3.0 mm fall within the normal range. During routine prenatal examinations, this measurement is commonly used to assess the fetus’s health status. If the value is abnormal, it is advisable to seek medical evaluation and treatment promptly. The nuchal translucency (NT) scan is performed using ultrasound—no blood test is required. You may eat and drink normally before the examination, as this has no effect on the results. Once the results are available, try not to become overly anxious or stressed.

After learning they are pregnant, women often become especially anxious about their developing fetus and actively seek out various types of prenatal knowledge—including understanding the normal reference ranges for fetal examinations. However, due to the large number of prenatal screening tests, many women remain unclear about certain key indicators—for instance, the normal range for fetal nuchal translucency (NT) measurement. So, what is the normal NT value range?

Normal NT Value Range

Generally, a normal NT measurement is less than 3.0 mm. During routine prenatal ultrasound examinations, this value helps assess whether the fetus is developing healthily. If the NT measurement exceeds this threshold, prompt medical evaluation is recommended. NT screening is performed via ultrasound and does not require blood testing. Normal dietary intake prior to the exam has no impact on results. After receiving the report, avoid excessive anxiety or stress. If the result falls near the upper limit of normal (i.e., borderline), non-invasive prenatal DNA testing (NIPT) may be considered to further evaluate potential chromosomal abnormalities.

Pregnant women should ensure adequate folic acid supplementation during early pregnancy. Typically, women should begin taking folic acid supplements three months before conception and continue for the first three months of pregnancy to help prevent fetal neural tube defects and other developmental abnormalities. In addition to folic acid supplements, consuming leafy green vegetables can also contribute to meeting daily folic acid requirements.

Couples are advised to abstain from sexual intercourse during early pregnancy. It is also important to monitor fetal growth regularly. We hope this information is helpful! Wishing you good health and happiness!
