Introduction
After rhinitis surgery, the surgical wound typically begins to heal within one to two weeks. As postoperative nasal mucosal congestion and edema gradually subside, and nasal packing materials—such as hemostatic sponges—are removed, nasal airflow usually improves progressively over approximately two weeks. However, complete recovery of the entire nasal region may take longer.

In our daily lives, as living standards continue to improve, air pollution and airborne dust have become increasingly prevalent—leading many people to develop rhinitis. So, how long does it take to recover after rhinitis surgery?

Recovery Time After Rhinitis Surgery

Following rhinitis surgery, the surgical wound gradually heals. As postoperative nasal mucosal congestion and edema subside, and nasal packing materials (e.g., absorbable sponges) are removed, nasal airflow typically begins to improve within approximately two weeks. However, complete recovery of the entire nasal structure generally takes about one to two months.

Rhinitis is an inflammatory condition of the nasal cavity caused by viruses, bacteria, allergens, various physical or chemical irritants, and certain systemic diseases. Primary pathological changes include nasal mucosal congestion, swelling, exudation, hyperplasia, atrophy, or necrosis. Clinically, rhinitis is classified based on onset speed into acute and chronic forms; chronic rhinitis is further subdivided into allergic and non-allergic types.

Common symptoms among rhinitis patients include rhinorrhea (runny nose), nasal congestion, sneezing, and nasal pruritus (itching). Acute rhinitis often occurs during seasonal transitions and usually carries a favorable prognosis. In contrast, chronic rhinitis tends to recur frequently and, in severe cases, may significantly impair quality of life. Patients with rhinitis should avoid smoking and alcohol consumption, and limit intake of spicy or irritating foods—since these factors can exacerbate symptoms and impede recovery.
