Introduction
It is quite common to develop numerous small, itchy bumps on the hands, which typically indicate allergic contact dermatitis of the hands. Many different allergens can trigger hand allergies. For example, everyday exposure to rubber, paint, hair dye, photographic developing solutions, or the sap from taro or Chinese yam can all cause allergic reactions in the hands, manifesting as itching and papular eruptions.

During the autumn and winter seasons, numerous small bumps often appear on the hands, accompanied by intense itching. What causes these itchy bumps on the hands?

What Causes Itchy Bumps on the Hands?

Itchy bumps on the hands are relatively common and typically represent allergic contact dermatitis affecting the hands. Numerous potential allergens may trigger hand allergies. For instance, everyday exposure to rubber, paint, hair dye, photographic developing solutions, or the sap from taro or Chinese yam can provoke an allergic reaction in the hands, manifesting as itching and papular eruptions. In children, itchy bumps may arise from playing with sand, soil, or rough plush toys, leading to friction-induced lichenoid skin lesions—characterized by small bumps and pruritus.

To alleviate itchy bumps on the hands, topical application of compound camphor ointment or Danpi ointment may be helpful. If distinct papules or vesicles are present, hydrocortisone butyrate cream should also be applied. Additionally, avoid scratching, thermal injury (e.g., burns), and alkaline bathing products. For severe pruritus, oral loratadine may be taken for symptomatic relief.

Maintain good hand hygiene and ensure the skin remains clean and dry. Diet should emphasize light, easily digestible foods; spicy or irritating foods should be minimized to prevent endocrine imbalance and disruption of normal skin metabolism. Incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins. We hope this information proves helpful.
