Introduction
Recurrent acne around the mouth in women is commonly caused by the following factors: - Hormonal imbalance—when female hormone levels fluctuate or increase, sebum production rises, predisposing to acne. - Dietary habits—many women prefer spicy and greasy foods; chronic constipation and intestinal heat can also contribute to perioral acne. - Lifestyle and external factors—excessive work-related fatigue, high psychological stress, inappropriate skincare practices, and long-term oral contraceptive use.

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder affecting the pilosebaceous unit. Many women frequently experience acne around the mouth—what causes this? Specific reasons include the following:

① Hormonal Imbalance

When hormonal balance in women is disrupted, elevated hormone levels can stimulate excessive sebum production, predisposing individuals to acne. Hormonal imbalances may result from various factors, including puberty, menstruation, or environmental changes.

② Poor Dietary Habits

Many women prefer spicy and greasy foods and often suffer from chronic constipation and intestinal heat, which can promote acne development around the mouth. It is recommended to adopt healthy dietary habits—consuming more fruits and vegetables—and maintain regular bowel movements.

③ Excessive Sebum Production

Overactive sebaceous glands can also lead to acne beneath the lips. Excess sebum readily traps dirt and dust, causing follicular obstruction; over time, this results in acne formation. This condition commonly occurs in individuals with oily skin.

④ Other Contributing Factors

Additional factors—including physical fatigue, high psychological stress, inappropriate skincare practices, long-term oral contraceptive use, drug-induced androgen exposure, and prolonged misuse of cosmetics—can all trigger excessive sebaceous gland activity and contribute to perioral acne.
