The Harm of Masturbation to the Skin
Masturbation—also known as autoeroticism—involves self-stimulation to relieve sexual tension, discharge sexual energy, fulfill one’s sexual needs, and derive pleasure and comfort from sexual activity. Frequent masturbation undoubtedly exerts significant adverse effects on the body, detailed as follows:
① Coarse or Roughened Skin
The human body relies on “Qi and Blood” (vital energy and blood) for nourishment, and these are primarily derived from daily diet. Regular masturbation may deplete Qi and Blood, leading to deficiency. When Qi and Blood become deficient, the skin may gradually lose its luster and elasticity, becoming increasingly coarse and accelerating the aging process.
② Impairment of Mental and Emotional Well-being
Excessive masturbation can result in mental fatigue, diminished willpower, indecisiveness, hesitation, irritability, mood instability, suspicion, and anxiety. Individuals may react impulsively or withdraw when facing challenges, lacking patience, perseverance, confidence, and courage—symptoms attributable to depletion of Essence (Jing), which impairs its transformation into Qi.
③ Prostatitis
Frequent masturbation causes prolonged congestion and stasis in the prostate gland, severely disrupting its normal secretory and excretory functions—potentially triggering prostatitis. During masturbation, heightened emotional arousal and tension render individuals highly sensitive to environmental disturbances; even minor external disruptions may abruptly interrupt the process before ejaculation occurs. This leads to recurrent congestion in the prostate and seminal vesicles, along with venous blood stasis—factors that predispose individuals to prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis.
