Introduction
If the small red spots do not cause itching or other discomfort, they may be due to a hemangioma, which generally has no significant impact on health and does not require treatment. However, if the small red spots are accompanied by itching, they may result from an allergic skin disorder, such as eczema or papular dermatitis. Additionally, purpura—including allergic purpura (also known as Henoch–Schönlein purpura)—can also present as small red spots.

In daily life, many people experience significant anxiety upon noticing numerous small red spots on their skin, fearing they may have a blood disorder. So, what causes these small red spots on the body?

What Causes Small Red Spots on the Body?

If the small red spots cause no itching or other discomfort, they may be due to benign vascular lesions—such as cherry angiomas—and generally pose no serious health risk, requiring no treatment. However, if the spots are accompanied by itching, they may stem from allergic skin conditions—for example, eczema or papular dermatitis. Additionally, purpura can also manifest as small red (or purple) spots.

Vasculitic purpura: primarily results from damage to the vascular wall, leading to increased vascular permeability and fragility.
Thrombocytopenic purpura: characterized by either reduced platelet counts or abnormal platelet function.
Allergic purpura: associated with triggers such as viral or streptococcal infections, food allergies, drug reactions, or insect bites—these factors may induce inflammatory changes in the blood vessels.

Patients should pay special attention to dietary habits. Regular consumption of leafy green vegetables is encouraged, while high-protein and high-fat foods should be minimized. Although fried foods are flavorful, they may exacerbate symptoms. Maintaining local skin cleanliness is also essential—frequent bathing is recommended. Therefore, individuals should avoid such foods whenever possible. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
