What Are the Symptoms of Laryngeal Cancer?
Disease description:
I’m experiencing shortness of breath and am concerned I may have laryngeal cancer. What are the symptoms of laryngeal cancer?
Laryngeal cancer, a highly malignant tumor, requires early detection and prompt treatment to significantly improve survival rates. Patients presenting with symptoms such as hoarseness, a foreign-body sensation in the pharynx, throat tightness, dysphagia, irritative dry cough, or vocal cord polyps should be highly suspicious of laryngeal cancer. Although these symptoms may resemble those of pharyngitis or other benign conditions, hoarseness caused by laryngeal cancer typically worsens progressively and does not resolve even after resolution of inflammation. Supraglottic laryngeal cancer may remain asymptomatic in its early stages; however, symptoms gradually emerge as the disease advances. Therefore, middle-aged and elderly individuals experiencing persistent pharyngeal discomfort should seek timely medical evaluation and undergo comprehensive diagnostic examinations to avoid delays in treatment. Additionally, lesions such as vocal cord polyps warrant close attention and regular follow-up to prevent malignant transformation.
