Glargine insulin is a long-acting insulin. However, “long-acting” refers to its duration of action—approximately 24 hours—and does not imply that it is intended for indefinite or lifelong use. After using insulin for a period of time, patients must return to the hospital for follow-up examinations; treatment regimens should then be adjusted accordingly based on the examination results to prevent drug resistance resulting from prolonged insulin use. Additionally, patients must strictly adhere to their prescribed dosage and must never increase the dose on their own.
