Disease description:

My blood sugar has been high for three years. The oral hypoglycemic medications I’ve been taking at home have been ineffective, so I visited the hospital and was prescribed rosiglitazone. Could you please tell me which class of antidiabetic drugs rosiglitazone belongs to?

Dr. Zhao Lianli
Rosiglitazone is a thiazolidinedione-class insulin sensitizer that enhances cellular glucose utilization by increasing insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle, liver, and adipose tissue, thereby exerting its blood glucose–lowering effect. It reduces fasting plasma glucose, insulin, and C-peptide levels, and also lowers postprandial glucose and insulin levels. Adverse reactions may occur during treatment with this drug, including abnormal liver function, dizziness, headache, and diarrhea.
