Elevated blood glucose levels can impair wound healing. Hyperglycemia is typically caused by disturbances in protein metabolism. Prior to surgery, it is advisable to optimize glycemic control. This can be achieved by increasing intake of protein-rich foods—such as fish, lean meats, and eggs—as well as consuming ample fresh vegetables and fruits. Concurrently, sugar intake should be strictly limited. Additionally, a follow-up blood glucose test at the hospital is recommended before surgery.
