My grandfather has some heart issues, and I’m concerned that his heart rate might also be abnormal. Could you please tell me: What is the normal heart rate for a 65-year-old?

Now that the elderly patient is relatively advanced in age, his heart rate should be maintained within the normal range to ensure his health. For a 65-year-old individual, the target heart rate should be between 60 and 100 beats per minute. Naturally, older adults tend to have slightly slower heart rates than younger individuals; therefore, even if the heart rate falls below 60 beats per minute—provided it remains no lower than 55 beats per minute—it is generally acceptable. At this age, vascular diseases are particularly common among the elderly; thus, preventing arterial hardening (atherosclerosis) is critically important.
