How soon after birth should a child undergo myocardial enzyme testing?
Disease description:
My wife has just given birth, and the doctor recommended that our newborn undergo an examination. I would like to ask: How soon after birth should the infant’s myocardial enzyme levels be tested?
Under normal circumstances, myocardial enzyme testing is not required for children who are asymptomatic and show no signs of cardiac issues. However, if a cardiac abnormality is suspected, myocardial enzyme assays should be performed. Specifically, if a child experiences symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, or tachycardia, an electrocardiogram (ECG) is indicated. In some cases, echocardiography may also be necessary to definitively assess for structural or functional heart disease.
