What Causes Guillain-Barré Syndrome?
Disease description:
I was recently diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome and would like to understand: What causes Guillain-Barré syndrome?
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) may be triggered by bacterial infections, such as Zika virus infection affecting the respiratory system. It can also occur following vaccination, although surgical procedures and trauma—such as nerve compression or injury during surgery—are other potential contributing factors. Typical symptoms of GBS include respiratory difficulty and muscle weakness.
