Are occasional ventricular premature beats serious?
Disease description:
I often feel palpitations and a racing heart. After examination, I was diagnosed with occasional arrhythmia and occasional ventricular premature contractions (VPCs). How serious are occasional VPCs?
Frequent palpitations suggest an underlying cardiac condition. Occasional premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are generally not indicative of a serious disease; however, frequent PVCs may trigger ventricular tachycardia. We recommend consulting a cardiologist at a hospital for further evaluation. Recommended tests include ambulatory electrocardiography (Holter monitoring) and echocardiography to assess your specific condition. Medications targeting PVC control may be prescribed. Additionally, ensure adequate rest, avoid strenuous physical activity, refrain from staying up late, and abstain from alcohol, coffee, and other stimulant beverages.
