Carotid artery plaques can be managed by the Department of Cardiology. Carotid artery plaques—also known as carotid atherosclerosis—are a common cardiovascular condition, and patients are therefore advised to consult a cardiologist. Medications may be prescribed to halt or slow further plaque progression, including statins, antiplatelet agents, and blood-activating and stasis-resolving drugs. In cases of severe carotid artery plaque causing significant arterial stenosis, interventional surgical treatment should be considered.
