Can patients with carotid artery plaques drink beer?
Disease description:
Last month, my physical examination revealed carotid artery plaques. However, I enjoy drinking beer occasionally. Is it safe for me to drink beer if I have carotid artery plaques?
Alcohol consumption may exacerbate plaque progression; therefore, patients with carotid artery plaques should avoid alcohol. Additionally, special attention should be paid to daily life and dietary habits: smoking and drinking should be avoided as much as possible. A low-salt, low-fat diet is recommended, and spicy or irritating foods should be avoided. Engaging in appropriate outdoor physical activity can help enhance the body’s resistance and assist in maintaining a healthy weight.
