The pH value of urine refers to its acidity or alkalinity. Under normal dietary conditions, urine from a healthy individual is typically slightly acidic. Abnormal urinary pH is often an important clinical indicator, useful in diagnosing conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis, gout, and chronic glomerulonephritis. However, urinary pH is not used—and is not scientifically valid—for determining the sex of a fetus. Moreover, there is no substantial scientific evidence indicating that urinary pH reliably predicts fetal sex.
