What Are the Effects of Niacinamide on the Skin?
Disease description:
Recently, I purchased a facial cleanser containing niacinamide and would like to know what effects niacinamide has on the skin.
Niacinamide is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of pellagra. Niacinamide deficiency can cause rough, keratinized, and dull skin. Additionally, niacinamide exhibits mild vasodilatory effects. It also possesses anti-glycation properties, helping to fade the yellowish discoloration resulting from protein glycation, thereby exerting a skin-brightening effect—particularly beneficial for individuals with sallow or dull skin. Moreover, niacinamide reduces melanin transfer to the epidermal stratum corneum and decreases melanin deposition in this layer, thus helping prevent skin darkening.
