Symptoms of Uterine Adhesions After Induced Abortion

Feb 14, 2022 Source: Cainiu Health
Disease description:

I recently underwent an abortion, but I’ve been feeling unwell ever since, with lower abdominal pain. I suspect I may have developed intrauterine adhesions (Asherman’s syndrome). What are the symptoms of intrauterine adhesions following an abortion?

Symptoms of intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) following induced abortion vary among individuals and depend on the severity of adhesion. IUAs are classified as mild, moderate, or severe. Patients with mild adhesions may be asymptomatic or experience only a slight reduction in menstrual flow. Those with moderate adhesions often exhibit markedly decreased menstrual volume and may also suffer from lower abdominal pain or a sensation of pelvic heaviness. In severe cases, patients typically have very scanty menstruation or even amenorrhea, frequently accompanied by cyclical lower abdominal pain. IUAs can lead to recurrent spontaneous abortion or infertility. Therefore, effective contraception should be practiced routinely to minimize unnecessary induced abortions.
