I’ve started university and have always particularly enjoyed high-fat, high-calorie foods such as hamburgers and fried chicken. I’m also not very active in my daily studies. I’d like to consult a doctor: Can regularly consuming high-fat foods cause kidney stones?

Kidney stones can lead to increased urinary protein. When kidney stones are present, they may lacerate the urothelium, causing a small amount of blood to enter the urine, thereby increasing urinary protein and red blood cell excretion. In cases of kidney stones complicated by infection, inflammatory exudates increase, which can further elevate urinary protein levels; this is often accompanied by an increase in urinary white blood cells and a positive nitrite test.
