What are the symptoms of chronic osteomyelitis?
Disease description:
Grandpa said he has recently been experiencing severe, prolonged pain throughout his body, and his condition has been progressively worsening. He went to the hospital for an examination and was diagnosed with chronic osteomyelitis. What are the symptoms of chronic osteomyelitis?
In patients with chronic osteomyelitis, local bone thickening or periosteal reaction occurs, often accompanied by sinus tract formation, abscesses, and sequestra. Following treatment, sinus tracts may close in some patients; however, recurrence is possible when resistance is low. Chronic osteomyelitis persists for prolonged periods and is prone to repeated exacerbations. Occasionally, inappropriate physical activity may lead to localized ulceration. Although sinus tracts may appear to heal after treatment, this healing is often superficial rather than complete. Over time, scar tissue develops around the sinus tracts, impairing local blood circulation and resulting in compromised blood supply. Management of chronic osteomyelitis is a long-term process.
