What are the consequences of low pepsinogen I?
Disease description:
During my gastroscopy, I was told that my pepsinogen I level is low. What are the implications of low pepsinogen I?
Low pepsinogen I levels may indicate lesions in the gastric body and fundus, such as atrophic gastritis, gastric ulcers, gastric cancer, megaloblastic anemia, hypopituitarism, hypothyroidism, or gastric mucosal glandular atrophy. Gastric mucosal injury can result from numerous causes—including dietary factors, medications, and *Helicobacter pylori* infection. If *H. pylori* infection is present, eradication therapy is required. Maintain awareness of dietary habits and eliminate unhealthy eating practices. Additionally, gastroprotective or digestive-enhancing medications may be used appropriately to support gastric function.
