Dr. Xing Jian
Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is primarily characterized by dysplastic hematopoiesis in the bone marrow and carries a relatively high risk of transformation into acute leukemia. However, “blood cancer” typically refers specifically to acute leukemia. Therefore, MDS is not classified as blood cancer. Due to its high propensity for progression to acute leukemia, MDS was historically termed “preleukemia” or “preacute leukemia.” Close monitoring of symptom changes is recommended. If you are asymptomatic, observation alone may be appropriate for now. In daily life, ensure adequate rest, maintain regular work–rest schedules, and avoid fatigue.
