Can pregnant women eat apricots?
Disease description:
My wife is seven months pregnant and has recently been craving apricots. May pregnant women eat apricots?
Pregnant women should consume apricots sparingly—or preferably avoid them altogether. Although apricots are nutritionally rich, they are considered “heat-inducing” (a concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine), and consumption during pregnancy may exacerbate fetal heat accumulation. This not only causes discomfort for the mother but may also adversely affect the developing fetus—and in severe cases, even increase the risk of miscarriage. Additionally, apricots contain trace amounts of natural toxins; while these typically cause no noticeable effects in healthy adults, they may pose significant risks to the fetus when consumed by pregnant women.
