What Is a Cardiac Angiography Examination?
Disease description:
My father has heart problems, and his doctor recommended a coronary angiography. What exactly is coronary angiography?
Coronary angiography is a minimally invasive procedure used in cardiology to diagnose coronary artery disease. It is categorized into two types: coronary angiography and cardiac angiography. In coronary angiography, a thin catheter is inserted—typically via the radial artery at the wrist or the femoral artery in the groin—and advanced to the ostium of the coronary arteries. Contrast medium is then injected into the coronary arteries, enabling visualization of their internal anatomy and assessment of blood flow velocity within the vessels.
