I’ve suffered from migraines for a long time and frequently take analgesics to relieve the pain. Could you please tell me about the potential risks associated with frequent use of analgesics?

Dr. Zhang Ligong
Long-term use of analgesics may lead to renal insufficiency—particularly in elderly patients—and, in severe cases, may result in uremia or increase the risk of kidney cancer. These medications may also cause neutropenia and infections, as well as gastrointestinal disorders. Although such drugs are generally well tolerated, their analgesic efficacy is low, and they carry a relatively high risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Therefore, patients are advised to consult their physician before initiating treatment and to take these medications only at the recommended dose.
