Treatment of Bradycardia
Disease description:
A few days ago, my aunt experienced syncope, dyspnea, confusion, and tachycardia. Diagnostic tests revealed bradycardia. What are the treatment options for bradycardia?
Bradycardia, also known as slow heart rate, typically does not require specific treatment when it is sinus bradycardia; management primarily focuses on addressing the underlying cause. However, if patients exhibit prominent symptoms such as dizziness, along with angina pectoris, heart failure, or central nervous system dysfunction—and have a heart rate below 40 beats per minute—pharmacologic interventions such as atropine administration or sublingual isoproterenol may be used to increase heart rate. In severe cases, pacemaker therapy may be indicated.
