Disease description:

Recently, I’ve constantly felt as though something had grown around my anus. After visiting the hospital for an examination, I learned that small fleshy growths had developed there. What causes fleshy growths to appear around the anus?

If the anal “grains” or nodules are external hemorrhoids, they result from impaired venous return due to prolonged sitting or standing, leading to dilated, varicose venous clusters that protrude through the skin surface—these appear as soft, persistent perianal nodules. In contrast, if internal hemorrhoids prolapse externally, venous stasis within the hemorrhoidal plexus causes progressive enlargement of the hemorrhoidal tissue, which eventually protrudes from the anal canal, manifesting as a nodule emerging from inside the anus. Additionally, perianal abscesses may develop: as the abscess worsens, the surrounding perianal skin becomes thin and weakened, allowing the abscess to bulge outward through the skin near the anus, forming a prominent, erythematous, swollen mass.
