Dr. Zhang Jian
Patients with cirrhotic ascites are difficult to treat. The development of ascites indicates that cirrhosis has progressed to the decompensated stage, at which point liver function is severely impaired and synthetic metabolic capacity is compromised. In some patients, ascites may improve with diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective therapies; however, others may develop refractory ascites, which responds poorly to treatment and carries a poor prognosis.
