Is prednisone tablet a hormonal drug?
Disease description:
I’ve been suffering from gout recently, so I’ve been taking prednisone tablets. However, a couple of days ago, during a conversation with a friend, I learned that this medication is a corticosteroid. Since then, I’ve become extremely cautious. Could you please confirm whether prednisone tablets are indeed corticosteroids?
Prednisone tablets are a type of hormonal medication classified as short-acting glucocorticoids. Hormonal medications should not be used long-term, as prolonged use can cause significant harm to the body. Potential adverse effects include osteoporosis, avascular necrosis of the femoral head, metabolic disturbances, and increased susceptibility to fungal infections. Therefore, prednisone tablets are not suitable for long-term use.
