What Causes Indentations in Fingernails?
Disease description:
Today, while trimming my child’s nails, I noticed indentations on their fingernails—what could be causing this?
Nail pitting (indentations in the fingernails) may result from deficiencies in trace elements or nutrients within the body. For instance, iron deficiency can lead to anemia, which in turn may increase the likelihood of nail pitting. Deficiencies in vitamin A, vitamin B, or calcium may also cause this condition. Additionally, nail pitting can be associated with other medical conditions, such as tinea manuum (hand fungus), psoriasis, or paronychia.
