Peppermint leaves are edible. They have a refreshingly cool taste and promote blood circulation and sweating, making them commonly used to relieve summer heat and fever. Peppermint leaves contain active compounds such as menthol, which produce a cooling sensation when applied topically to the skin; thus, they can also be used for anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipruritic (anti-itch), and detoxifying purposes. Additionally, peppermint may help alleviate pain to some extent and possesses hypotensive and cardioprotective (heart-nourishing) effects.
