Mandibular contouring surgery may result in complications. Primarily, normal bone tissue is disrupted during the procedure, leading to a certain degree of reduction in resistance to external impact and mastication of hard foods. For instance, patients may sustain fractures following lateral trauma or direct impact; however, this vulnerability tends to improve gradually as the body undergoes natural healing and bone remodeling. Additionally, improper surgical technique—such as inadvertent injury to major nerves—may cause localized nerve transection, resulting in sensory disturbances and impaired coordination of oral commissure movement. Such neurologic complications represent relatively common adverse effects following mandibular contouring surgery.
