Can children develop claustrophobia?
Disease description:
My child feels afraid in enclosed spaces. Can young children develop claustrophobia?
Children can indeed develop claustrophobia, and it can occur at any age. It may be caused by environmental factors and the individual’s personality traits, among other reasons. Currently, medications such as Paxil (paroxetine) can be used for treatment; if necessary, consultation with a psychologist or psychiatrist may help alleviate symptoms. Additionally, individuals with claustrophobia may experience symptoms—including generalized numbness, tachycardia, and chest tightness—when in small, enclosed spaces.
